Myrrh Pure Essential Oil 10ml
Commiphora myrrha
Myrrh is a resin or gum collected from the stunted, thorny Comminphora shrubs which grow in the Middle East, northern India and North Africa. Through the fissures in its bark, the trunk exudes a pale yellow oleo-resin, hardening to semi-transparent, reddish-brown "tears" on exposure to air.
This gum has been used throughout the Middle East and Mediterranean for almost four thousand years. It was one of the very first aromatic substances valued for its rich and enduring scent. It played an important role in the religious and medical life of the ancient Egyptians both in healing ointments as well as an incense to honour the dead. It was also used in religious ceremonies by the ancient Hebrews who mixed it with wine and drank it to prepare themslves for religious ceremonies, in order to raise their consciousness. It was also one of the gifts of the Magi to Christ at his birth. It has also been used in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine for a very long time.
Myrrh gently calms the nervous system and instills a deep tranquillity of the mind. Its sweet, resinous, earthy aroma soothes, clarifies and grounds the intellect, making it ideal for those who worry, overthink and are distracted mentally.
It is astringent, antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory and has traditionally used in the treatment of mouth, gum and throat infections. Having balsamic-expectorant qualities makes it also beneficial for laryngitis and bronchitis especially when combined with Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and Pine essential oils.
Used topically, Myrrh Essential Oil has cleansing, astringent and moisturising abilities. It can be used in creams and lotions to help keep the complexion clean and fresh. It is also very helpful with eczema and skin infections and can also help strengthen the immune system.
Uses:
Vaporise or diffuse to distribute the oil in a fine mist in your environment.
Apply topically in a dilution of 3 - 6 drops of Myrrh essential oil in a teaspoon of a carrier oil. For children use 1 - 3 drops of Myrrh in a teaspoon of carrier oil. If using Myrrh in your mouth, you may apply it directly to the gums but do not swallow.
Myrrh essential oil blends well with: Frankincense, Sandalwood, Bergamot, Clary Sage, Geranium, Grapefruit, Juniperberry, Lavender, Mandarin, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Peppermint, Pine and Tea Tree essential oils.
