Wild Seotarian Heart, approximate size 111mm wide x 109mm long x 55mm deep, ex Madagascar.
Septarian is an ancient stone believed to have formed during the Cretaceous period when sea levels were higher and volcanic activity caused the death of small sealife which then fell to the seafloor. As the sea creatures decomposed, they mixed with other sediments, vreating nodules or mudballs. As the oceans receded these mudballs were left exposed to the elemnts and they dried out, causing shrinking and cracking.
Septarian specimens are geodes that are a combination of yellow calcite, brown aragonite, grey limestone and white or clear barite. The word septarian comes from the Latin word "septum," meaning "partition." Septarian nodules contain angular cavities as a result of cracking, which are called septaria and create divisions throughout the stone.
These ancient stones have many metaphysical qualities. Septarian is a healing stone as well as being protective. It nurtures and grounds and brings about feelings of happiness and understanding. This versatile stone is also an excellent speaking stone that improves and communication and co-operation, especially in groups. Septarian is associated with the lower chakras: root, sacral and solar plexus.
This Septarian heart is a spectacular specimen, bold and beautiful in its wildness.
